Nashville, She, and Him are pretty cool.

We made it to Nashville! The snow was a little tricky to get through, but we made good time and are staying in a really neat hotel. :)

For those of you unaware, Dylan and I started a music project about 8 months ago..something that progressed into a full on duo/band, The Static Trees. By using our own equipment and a little inspiration, we've already been able to put out three full-length cds, with a fourth on

its way. We've been playing really any show that we can get, and we were lucky enough to land a showcase in Nashville, TN. We'll be playing in front of different booking agents and record company execs, so we're pretty excited to have gotten this gig! This is all happening on Monday, so I'll be sure to keep you posted. :) While we aren't expecting too much to come from this, we're guaranteed a good amount of feedback..and every little bit helps. Besides that, Dylan and I are both visiting Nashville for the first time, so we've got a lot of good music to hear, museums to see, and browsing to do. No matter what, I can assure you that this trip will be a good time.

2011...what?

I can't believe it, but the new year has already come and gone! I celebrated New Years by going to Jer's apartment with Dylan and a bunch of our friends. It was Paige's birthday (she was the first baby born in Las Vegas on 1/1/91) so we decided to dress up extra special for the occasion.

We were lucky enough to have Right As Rain play before the ball dropped...this means that there was good music and dancing all throughout the evening. A bunch of people showed up during their set and I think they started off the evening perfectly.







Erica was home on break so she came along and made some awesome cupcakes. They had actual sparkles on them and I couldn't help but think that Barbie would be proud. :) Not only that, they were delicious!!



When the clock struck midnight, we were sipping champagne, watching the fireworks from Jer's rooftop. It was a perfect end to 2010 and a perfect begining to 2011 (and Paige's birthday). I can see good things on the horizon!

Black Swan

Dylan, Erica, Jer, and I all ventured to a late night showing of Black Swan last night. After seeing it, we all were in agreement...it is a fantastic movie with great shots, talent, and dancing. While the story line has been done 1000 times, Darren Aronofsky really made it his own by turning Swan Lake into a thriller and having Natalie Portman literally transform into her evil side, or her own Black Swan. The entire movie was suspenseful, as you were never quite sure when a painting on the wall would start to move or a reflection in a mirror would become its own self. You can easily connect with Portman's terror as she starts to realize that things are not really as they seem and the movie will keep you guessing what is real and what is imagined up until the very end. The movie is up for a ridiculous number of awards...4 Golden Globes, 3 Screen Actors Guild awards, 5 Gotham Awards, and many more with 2 BSFC Awards already won. It's no wonder why the movie is getting so much success...if you haven't seen it, you really ought to!

After that, we went back to Jer's house for awhile where we talked about the movie and how good coffee sounded....so we eventually wound up at the diner. Erica hadn't been there since she returned home, so we wanted to make sure that she got her diner fill before she had to leave again. Despite the random crowd of people at 2a.m. on a Thursday, I think the trip was a success.

Eduard Erlikh

In one of my fashion illustration classes, we touched upon a pretty cool artist by the names of Eduard Erlikh. He is known for his vibrant colored watercolor paintings. His silhouettes are high fashion and the color combinations are always interesting and creative. The prints that he includes add some great depths to his work without being too overbearing. He has some rather well known clients such as Vogue USA, Vogue Japan, Marie Claire France, Bazar Japan, and more. I haven't been able to find too much else out about this guy, but his artwork pretty much speaks for itself.

My Favorite Gift

Dylan was extremely thoughtful and bought me a camera for Christmas this year. He claimed that I deserved a better one than I had, as he likes my photos best above any creative thing I do. I couldn't complain, as having a new gadget is always a treat. :) Since receiving it, I have been experimenting with all of the different settings, trying to get a real for for how everything works. The following are my positive results:

Giles Deacon

I stumbled upon Giles Deacon's site the other day and was browsing through the collections. I came upon the 2011 Spring RTW collection and was so impressed! The outfits were fun but sophisticated, perfect for someone with a sense of imagination. The patterns were bold and varied, the colors bold and crisp. The makeup and varied sunglasses were also a great touch to the show and really added a lot to the collection as a whole.

Colors of the stars

I have been so busy lately..school is almost over and the holidays are upon us! I haven't posted in awhile, but I have still been uncovering wonderful artists, movies, and etc. every day. In class the other day I was shown some work by Demetrios Psillos, and I just fell in love. He uses color to create emotion and depth in his paintings, and really has a knack for capturing people. I fell in love with some of his celebrity drawings, so I thought I'd share:






He graduated with a degree in Fashion and was recruited by John Gallino as pattern maker. He moved to New York City two years later. Here, he established a studio and contributed to a number of different household magazines. After a sucessful four years, he returned to London to contribute to British Vogue. Currently, he still contributes to magazines and tutors a life drawing class.
